DA 1/35 Tiger I “Zitadelle”

The early production Tiger I “Zitadelle” is the only Wittmann-related item in Dragon Armor’s 1/35 scale collection, and is a faithfully detailed reproduction of the vehicle belonging to the 13th Heavy Company of the LSSAH commanded by Michael Wittmann during Operation “Zitadelle” in the Kursk salient in the summer of 1943.

The 1/35 Tiger comes packaged in a windowed cardboard box, and is attached to plastic stand like the smaller 1/72 models. As this item is currently on a display shelf, I have removed the plastic stand. The model features a fully rotatable turret, and is painted in the two-tone dark yellow and dark green summer camouflage used in 1943 by the 13th company. The turret carries the number 1331, the vehicle assigned to SS-Untersturmführer Wittmann as the newly-assigned leader of the third platoon.

As with all of the Dragon Armor pieces, this metal and plastic die-cast model has an extremely high level of accuracy for a piece of its size, right down to the hatches that open and the on-board accessories that are moulded onto the hull.

The figures of the Tiger commander in the standard black Waffen-SS Panzer uniform and the two crewmen in the “peas” pattern camouflage do not come with the model, but are Tamiya plastic figures painted by myself.
