Has anyone noticed that hollywood films always seem to portray German soldiers looking completely wrong. In foreign films the German soldiers always look just like their real life counterparts (eg Downfall) but in hollywood films the directors seem to go out of their way to try and make the Germans look stupid.

They always have their helmets pulle down over their eyes, and have big square jaws and mean looking faces as they dash about firing their MP40s at civilians etc. I finally found a good example pic of this from Defiance.

Now does this guy look anything like a real German soldier? It's almost like these movies are a modern version of those old WWII comics where the Germans are always yelling Ach!!! and Himmel!!!

As for this:

I don't even know where this came from lol

That probably comes from a computer game

Looks to me like oneof these "Nazi Zombies" computer games.
Anyway, you must remember that Holywood films are aimed at the American market, since the Yanks won the war (Any war they were involved in!) single-handed, accuracy isn't required.

The second pic is from the movie Dead Snow. It's a Norwegian Nazi-zombie-gore-fest comedic flick.

It's about a group of students going to a remote cabin during winter. They encounter a local man who tells them about the insurrection of the local populace against the German garrison during the war. Apparently the people killed the garrison and drove the survivors into the mountains where they most probably froze to death. They also took with them a chest of gold that they stole from the people and when our students find the chest and take some of the gold for themselves, the fun begins.

It's classic gore with a modern Tarantino-esk approach. Some memorable scenes are the love scene between two students in the outhouse, when she sucks his finger which the guy just used to wipe his arse; mowing down advancing zombies with a snowmobile mounted MG; charging a nazi zombie with a crossed hammer and a sickle; chainsaw amputation of a bitten hand done by the patient himself; etc...

All in all a killer movie!!!

A honest depiction of the other side in a Hollywood movie would be 'Night of the Generals' starring Omar Sharif and Peter O'Toole, though historical accuracy on dates and units is terrible

Just saw Valkyrie, I think I'm going to be sick... you know I never realised that Wehrmacht officers had British and American accents

This has become a hot topic in our house, to the point where even Tigress can now spot the dud uniforms! I have not seen Defiance and have no real desire to, as it sounds like hackneyed rubbish.

The worst film I have seen in recent weeks though has to be The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - a fairytale nightmare story, and a scene where a decorated Waffen-SS Obersturmbannführer becomes the commandant of a KZ, switching the lightning flashes for a Totenkopf. One to avoid, unless you want to pick holes in the silly story.

As for Valkyrie, having seen it the once I am half and half over the accent thing. Yes, it does seem a bit weird having the actors speak in their normal accents, but at least zis is better zan ze stupid Cherman akzents we alvays used to hear in zose awful mowies from ze zeventees. For Hollywood, one can argue that this was a major breakthrough; it has been going on in British productions for some time.

That said, Valkyrie - given the nature of the story - should have been in German with subtitles. This would have meant that there would have been no place for the Anglo-American cast, which was crucial in terms of driving the film in the US market. Unless, of course, they learned the language to play the role properly.

For me, Stauffenberg would have been better played by a German actor like Thomas Kretschmann.

Looked up Dead Snow on YouTube. Here is a scene from it. Hilarious. Specially that I play Call Of Duty 5 Nazi Zombies mod every Sunday night. Now where is my dammed chainsaw.

Yeah Valkyrie was terrible. my problem is i watched it shortly after having watched downfall which is one of my favourite movies ever. i know theyre very different films but really downfall is a thousand times better. does anyone know what it's budget was? cos i think they did a great job with it.

I spose the highlight of valkyrie was at least tom cruise got shot lol the nazis saved the world from his scientology Clap
