Got this the last weekend I was home.
Has anyone else read it and what were your thoughts. Published 2004 so it may be out of date with the latest thinking on the way Michael met his death.
Forty is usually fairly accurate.

Been ploughing my way through this for what seems months now.
Very well informed writing but bloody hard work!

I'm bored of the 'general' books about the Reich, normally plastered full of already known information, and old propaganda. Read books by people like John Toland.

Each of these general histories on the Third Reich/Hitler offers a different perspective, you can choose to take it or leave it. Burleigh presents a new perspective - rather than simply being dismissed, it should be weighed up against other similar works. FWIW I do think Burleigh's book is worth reading, even if I may disagree with in parts.

The political perspectives might alter significantly, but you cannot really go far wrong if you take four authors together - Burleigh's just misses out - I'd take Irving, Toland, Fest and Kershaw.
